Corporate Travel Management for Successful Business Trips
March 26, 2024
Travel Risk is evolving, and so are the expectations around Duty of Care. Our expert Shaun Boulter, Global Head of Security Operations and Services for Corporate Travel Solution, shares insights on how businesses can better protect their employees on the move, and how AXA Partners’ solution Travel Eye helps make it happen.
Q/ How would you define Corporate Mobility and AXA Partners' Business Travel solutions in a few words ?
Shaun Boulter: Corporate Mobility brings together Medical, Security, Technology, and Insurance. It represents a key component of AXA Partners’ broader Travel Solutions offering, especially for our B2B clients. More than just a service, it’s a comprehensive Duty of Care solution, helping companies, often driven by legislation, to meet their legal responsibilities towards employees on the move, whether they’re travellers or expats. If your company has travellers or expats, this is a ‘must-have’ service because you're legally required to provide both proactive and reactive safety nets to your employees. It’s about improving their travel experience while simplifying corporate risk management for companies.
Q/ Can you share about how the corporate mobility product line evolved to address the increasing complexity of travel risk management ?
SB: Travel Risk Management is the practice of anticipating, preventing, and responding to unexpected risks that travellers may encounter, from extreme weather and social unrest to terrorism, natural disasters, or public health crises like pandemics. Over the years, Corporate Mobility has evolved significantly, particularly thanks to advances in technology and introduction of AI. AI has transformed how we monitor, report, and support travellers, reducing reaction times from hours or minutes with the old manual processes to just seconds. Today, our systems can determine with a high level of confidence whether a traveller is or could be affected by an incident, or even in danger. It can proactively reach out, check on their status, and immediately connect them to our operations teams, while simultaneously alerting key contacts within the client’s organisation. It’s a powerful way to manage both high-risk travel and everyday incidents, in real time.
At AXA Partners, we continuously evolve to address the ever-present risks that travellers face at any point in their journey. This requires ongoing investment in innovation and a proactive approach to risk management. By staying ahead of emerging threats, we can mitigate risks more effectively—reducing their impact to an acceptable level or even eliminating them entirely.
Q/ As a key component of AXA Partners’ corporate mobility offer, how does Travel Eye contribute to improving travel risk management ?
SB: Travel Eye, our 360-degree employee protection during business travel, gives organisations and even more to Risk Managers a real-time, aerial view of their travellers and locations, allowing them to see, with a click, who is where and what events might impact them. This shifts the approach from reactive to proactive. While traditional insurance responds after an incident, Travel Eye helps anticipate and mitigate risks before they escalate. Today’s corporate travellers need more than just insurance—they need proactive risk management combined with real-time support. Powered by our partnership with Safeture, AXA Travel Eye combines cutting-edge technology with real-time support, enabling companies to activate travel risk management plans with precision and speed. Because today’s corporate travellers don’t just need coverage — they need confidence, control, and care.
Q/ To what extent can Travel Eye be customized to meet the specific needs of different industries?SB: Travel Eye is built around three key components: ‘Track, Locate, Communicate’ and these are the core drivers of the tool. It offers two distinct service levels: Gold and Platinum. Gold is primarily an information only service, with the option of an emergency button and access to operational support. Platinum however provides a more comprehensive experience, supporting the traveller from the moment of booking. It integrates travel data from the Travel Management Company, delivers destination insights before the trip, and ensures geo-location tracking throughout the journey. Travellers are monitored, alerted to potential threats, checked on in case of impact, and supported until they safely return home. These features can be delivered as a complete package or tailored (pick and choose approach) to meet each client’s specific needs. Moreover, organisations that use or generate other forms of risk intelligence can easily integrate that data into Travel Eye, allowing both the company and its travellers to benefit from a broader intelligence ecosystem.
At AXA Partners, we see our clients' travelling and expatriate staff as our own, recognizing that their safety is our responsibility. We are committed to partnering with organizations to uphold their duty of care, ensuring that our solutions align seamlessly with their needs. By listening, adapting, and innovating, we provide the right support at the right time—helping businesses protect their people, wherever they are in the world.
